Matilija Poppies (Romneya coulteri) or Californian tree poppy. Native to Southern California and Mexico. This plant bears the largest flowers of any species native to California and trives in drought conditions. Taken at 7:00:26 on April 22, 2014. Nikon d7000 17mm f5.6 1/100 and stobe at -3 stops.
Despite a record drought in California, these native plants thrive and started blooming a month earlier this year. Hard to establish and impossible to remove, Matilija Poppies are one of the most beautiful flowers that the desert environment can provide.
